Mud (2012) - Matthew McConaughey , Reese Witherspoon

Mud is the story of Ellis (Tye Sheridan) a young teenage boy who with his best friend Neckbone (Jacob Lofland) - that's probably one of the coolest names I've encountered in film -finds a boat stuck in a tree , in an island in the middle of the Mississippi . Apparently this boat got there during the last flood as Neckbone explains .The two decides to turn this boat as their new hideaway , hey I mean it acts like a really cool tree house plus it's a boat what kid wouldn't want that? Problem is , someone is already living up there as the two later discover, and he goes by the name of Mud (Matthew McConaughey) . A man with a mysterious and dangerous past, obviously , I mean who else would choose to live in an old boat on top of a tree in the middle of nowhere ? So the story progresses as they get to know Mud , unravel his past , and go on a voyage of self discovery and personal insight as this kind of movies always goes .

I have to say the actors who played the two boys ,Tye Sheridan and Jacob Lofland, were good and I mean really good , so good in fact that I hope to the movie gods that they are on their way to Oscar gold and not on the path of Lindsay Lohan and Amanda Bynes . They are the driving force of the movie , aside from the fact that they are in most of the scenes , they tend to outshine their much older colleagues . And Matthew McConaughey is still very much just Matthew McConaughey in this film, you know sometimes I cannot really tell the difference from each of the characters he plays . Sometimes I feel like each movie is just Matthew McConaughey thrown in a different situation , but I have to give him this , in this movie he really fits the role well , despite looking like an amateur next to the two boys . But don't let that fact distract you from how really good this film is and how cynical , the dude who wrote this must have been burnt bad because when it comes to love there is a recurring theme of cynicism . Oh and Reese Witherspoon is in this , her role is small but she delivers well . The storyline is great , there are a lot of nice moments , and if you are a dude and you put this movie too much to heart , you may never marry , but all in all a great movie , great cast even if Matthew McConaughey is still just Matthew McConaughey.
