The Kite Runner (2007)

Based on the best selling novel by Khaled Hosseini, Kite Runner is the story of a friendship between two Afghan boys, and how the circumstance of war and their turbulent childhood would affect the life of one of them. Since the film is based on a magnificent novel, obviously there isn't a lack of a great story, but how to translate it into the big screen while preserving the essence of a great novel at the same time make an equally or even better film version is the trick to such an endeavor.

In this case Kite Runner succeeds , the movie is touching, the cast did excellent work, and the scenes were beautiful even if it was meant to show desolation. The scenes were they show kite fighting for instance is executed well, it tends to make you as excited as the characters are, even if the sport is totally alien to most of us. I applaud the movie for using the Afghan language in the parts where it was meant to be used (which is majority of the film) and avoided the Hollywood cliche of foreigner speaking english when they are among themselves.

Kite Runner is a great film, at the end of it, it will leave you pondering on thoughts on friendship and loyalty, even more so than thoughts on the situation on Afghanistan.
